Olivia Ridley will be representing the Cayman Islands in the upcoming CONCACAF Qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Puerto Rico, from January 24th to February 1st, 2025.
Ridley, a member of the Van Isle Wave 2010 Girls team, was born in the Cayman Islands and moved with her family to Canada last year.
“It is an honor to represent my country in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers,” expressed Olivia Ridley. “I am so excited and look forward to this great opportunity. A great amount of gratitude goes out to Pacific Football Club and Van Isle Wave for supporting me.”
While in Canada, the Ridley family has been sending Van Isle Wave footage to the Cayman Islands national coaches in hopes of being called up to the international tournament. During this past Christmas, Olivia went back to the Cayman Islands and trialled in front of national team coaches to help solidify her spot on the Cayman Islands U-17 National Team.
“Olivia is a fantastic player who’s passion for the game, attitude in training, and connection to her teammates embodies everything you could look for in an elite young athlete,” said Kieran Large, 2010 Girls Head Coach, Van Isle Wave. “Having just joined our team recently, her attitude and performance has been essential to our team’s success. Olivia is so deserving of this opportunity and we couldn’t be prouder of her.”
Olivia will be 15-years-old at the time of the tournament making her call-up even more impressive.
The Cayman Islands are in Group A alongside the host nation Puerto Rico, Bermuda and St. Vincent & The Grenadines. The full details of her match schedule are below.
Monday, January 27th: Bermuda vs Cayman Islands at 1:00pm PDT
Wednesday, January 29th: Cayman Islands vs Puerto Rico at 4:00pm PDT
Friday, January 31st: Cayman Islands vs St. Vincent & The Grenadines at 1:00pm PDT
