Will Edgson shares insights on trials with VfL Bochum

Will Edgson sent updates to Pacific FC during his time training with VfL Bochum to share information about his opportunity and experiences training with the Bundesliga side. Below is a condensed version of his updates to share with the public.

Hello everyone,

We arrived in Bochum, Germany on Saturday, January 11th and quickly settled into our rooms. VfL Bochum generously provided us with dorms at Ruhr-Universität Bochum for the duration of our stay. We spent the first two days adjusting to the time change and exploring the city before beginning our training sessions.

We have been training with VfL Bochum II who are currently sitting atop the Oberliga. The training has been quite similar to back home, but it has a much higher focus on direct attack with transition being a massive part of the game.

While we were here we had the amazing opportunity to watch two Bochum games including the 1-0 win against St. Paulie, and the comeback from 3-0 down in the second half to get a 3-3 draw against Leipzig which was an absolutely fantastic experience! Jonah got us tickets in the VIP section for the second game which was an unbelievable experience.

In our free time, we have been living a life similar to a university student, we buy groceries, cook food, walk around the university centre, and today we visited their city mall where we shopped at some German stores.

Occasionally we will train twice a day, once at 10am and again at 4pm. Our final training session on Friday, January 24th, before we all fly back home shortly after.

It has been an excellent experience on and off the field. We have all felt very lucky to have this opportunity and represented the Island proudly during our time in Germany.

All the best,

Will Edgson
